RCN Guide may work with brands, businesses, agencies, contributors, and other organizations. This policy explains how commercial relationships, sponsored content, advertising, external links, and contributed material are handled while keeping transparency and reader value at the center.
Our basic principle
Commercial relationships do not automatically determine editorial treatment. Sponsored and contributed material must still meet our standards for relevance, clarity, usefulness, and responsible publishing.
01 / Scope
What this policy covers
This policy applies to commercial publishing relationships and advertising formats that may appear on RCN Guide.
Advertising
Display advertising, promotional placements, branded campaigns, and other paid advertising formats.
Sponsored content
Articles, guides, explainers, campaigns, or other content created or supported through a commercial relationship.
Contributed content
Articles or resources submitted by authors, companies, agencies, specialists, or other third parties.
02 / Sponsored publishing
Sponsored content
Clear identification
When content has a commercial relationship that readers should know about, we aim to make that relationship clear. Appropriate labels may include terms such as “Sponsored”, “Advertorial”, “Partner Content”, or similar language.
Reader value comes first
Payment or sponsorship does not guarantee publication. Commercial content should have a clear connection to the audience and provide useful information rather than exist solely to place links or keywords.
Content quality still matters
Sponsored material may be reviewed for accuracy, clarity, originality, relevance, formatting, claims, promotional language, and overall usefulness before publication.
Commercial relationships are not editorial approval
A commercial relationship does not mean RCN Guide independently endorses every statement, product, service, or claim contained in the sponsored material.
03 / Links
Paid and sponsored links
Links are considered in the context of the content, its purpose, and the commercial relationship behind the placement.
| Situation | Our approach | Link treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsored or paid placement | Clearly identified as commercial where appropriate. | rel=”sponsored” |
| Other advertising relationship | Links may be qualified to prevent them from passing ranking credit. | rel=”nofollow” |
| Normal editorial reference | Used when genuinely useful to readers and editorially relevant. | Editorial |
04 / Contributors
Contributed and guest content
RCN Guide may accept articles and resources from external contributors when they fit the publication’s subject areas and provide a meaningful reason for readers to engage with them.
- Content should be relevant to the subject of the publication.
- Submissions should be original and not copied from another website.
- Claims should be supportable and presented accurately.
- Promotional material should be proportionate and transparent.
- Links should be relevant to the surrounding content.
- Paid or commercially motivated links may be appropriately qualified.
- Publication is not guaranteed simply because a submission is paid or sponsored.
05 / Review
How commercial content is reviewed
The exact review process can vary by content type, but the objective is to keep commercial material useful, understandable, and appropriately disclosed.
Relevance
Does the topic make sense for the publication and its readers?
Quality
Is the material clear, original, useful, and sufficiently developed?
Transparency
Is the commercial relationship clear where disclosure is appropriate?
Links
Are external links relevant and handled appropriately for their purpose?
06 / Search transparency
Understanding sponsored links and Search guidelines
Paid advertising and sponsorship can be legitimate ways to monetize online publishing. The important part is making commercial relationships clear and handling links appropriately.
07 / Independence
Editorial independence
Payment does not buy a positive opinion
Sponsors and advertisers cannot require RCN Guide to present an independent editorial opinion as favorable if the evidence does not support that position.
Commercial content remains identifiable
Readers should be able to understand when they are viewing advertising, sponsored material, or other content created through a commercial relationship.
No guaranteed rankings
We do not promise a particular Google ranking, featured result, indexing outcome, traffic level, or search visibility as a condition of publication.
No guaranteed editorial approval
A commercial arrangement does not remove the need for content to meet applicable publishing standards.
08 / AI-assisted material
AI-assisted sponsored content
AI tools may be used by contributors, advertisers, agencies, or editors as part of research, drafting, analysis, editing, or production. The use of AI does not remove responsibility for the accuracy, originality, legality, usefulness, and quality of the final material.
Material that is generated or heavily assisted by automated systems may require additional human review, fact checking, editing, or restructuring before publication.
Content should not be produced at scale simply to manipulate search visibility or create large volumes of low-value pages.
09 / Third-party publishing
Third-party content and site reputation
Third-party content is not automatically a problem
External contributors, sponsored articles, and other third-party material can serve legitimate publishing and advertising purposes when the content is intended for readers and fits the publication.
Manipulative publishing is different
Publishing third-party material primarily to exploit an established site’s ranking signals, especially when the material is unrelated, low quality, or designed mainly for search manipulation, can create significant search quality concerns.
10 / Affiliate relationships
Affiliate and referral links
Some pages may contain affiliate or referral relationships where RCN Guide may receive compensation if a reader takes an eligible action through a link.
Where such relationships exist, they should be disclosed in a clear and understandable way. Affiliate relationships do not replace the need for useful, original information and appropriate link handling.
11 / Publication decisions
Why content may be declined or changed
We may decline, request changes to, limit, edit, label, update, or remove commercial or contributed material for reasons including:
- Irrelevance to the publication or its audience.
- Unsupported, misleading, or materially inaccurate claims.
- Excessive promotional language.
- Low-value or substantially duplicated material.
- Unnatural or manipulative linking patterns.
- Content created primarily to manipulate search visibility.
- Legal, regulatory, copyright, privacy, or safety concerns.
- Failure to provide sufficient information needed for responsible publication.
